The western culture values the equality very much. You can see it from how the parents educate the children. But for our Chinese, there is huge difference. As parents, we always ask the kids respect us. We always think we have more knowledge. We seldom hear Chinese parents told their children, “You can be whatever you want to be when you grow up. “ We are always anxious to set a plan when our children are still young and ask them to be what the plan is. So we save money for RESP. and we push our baby to various classes. Eventually, when all that turn out to be the opposite, we are so angry and depressed.

And our parents are the same. Even we come here Canada, and make a better life in the different world, they still have a lot of lessons want to teach us here no matter how mature we are now. We are always their children, not the equality person. So sometimes, I would like to say respecting should not be gained by age, but by the respecting…
