THE SUMMER SAFETY TIPS FOR KIDS

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Summer in the city means bumps, bruises, cuts and scrapes. Canadian children play outside more during the warmer weather and that time outdoors raises the risk for a minor injury.

"More than 10,000 children are injured in playgrounds in Canada every year -- with an increase of 9% from May through August," reports Health Canada.

Make sure your child has a fun and safe summer by following these tips from Band-Aid:

- Purchase a proper fitting helmet and make sure your child wears it every time they get on their bicycle, scooter or when they pull on their in-line skates. The helmet should sit level over your child's forehead, advises the Canada Safety Council. Adjust the chin strap so the helmet sits snugly on the head -- it should not move unless the scalp moves.

- Replenish the first aid kit with cotton swabs, gauze, tweezers, an antiseptic wash, antibiotic ointment and bandages. Clean a minor wound with an antiseptic wash, add an antibiotic ointment and keep it covered at all times.

"Keeping a wound covered and protected promotes faster healing and decreases the chance of scarring," says Dr. John Goldhar, Mount Sinai Hospital. "A bandage helps keep the wound moist, which enables the skin cells to migrate together to form new tissue," he adds. Allowing the skin to scab over will inhibit the growth of new cells over the damaged area.

- Slather on the sunscreen and dress your child in protective clothing before heading outdoors. Serve lots of fresh fruit and have plenty of drinks on hand, such as juice and water, to combat dehydration.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
