Jabber's English Note---Probably

Probably I am going back to China next year.
Probably he has gone.
Probably we have to go through all the steps.
.......
.

Nothing is wrong with these sentences. Chinese English speakers like to use the word "probably", and we usually put the "probably" at the beginning of the sentense. However, our audience often get confused by our words. If you say "probably", the listener may think what you are talking is very likely to take place. If we quantify it, the probabliity should be at least 70% or above. If the chance is only fifity-fifty, we had better use the word "maybe".

Maybe I am going back to China next year.
Maybe she can give us some explanations.

    • Ahh! See, i don't know what kind of mistake you people what you people don't know. I only know what mistake my kind of people make. If someone would just ask me, i would of told you everything you have post so far.
    • what i heard most is put "probably" after the verb. I am probably going back to China next year. he has probably gone. we will probably have to go through all the steps. then it is english not chinglish.
      • The position of adverbs in the sentences is very flexible. No fixed position. You can even add "probably" right before finishing your words..
        • surely.
    • how about "PERPHAPS"?
      • Yes,I'm thinking about this word, too.Because I 'm really tired of always using "maybe".Almost 50% of my sentences start with "Maybe":)
