Computers. f you live in or near the Greater Toronto Area, and have an old computer you no longer need, please consider the following kindness you can do for someone in need:

Old computers (even 15 year old ones) can do almost all tasks modern computers can do - they just need a better operating system. I put Linux-based operating systems on old computers and give them to people otherwise unable to purchase a computer. It allows them all the functionality a normal user needs.

You're probably worried about the data on your computer. I will come to your residence and put a special program to work that, irrecoverably, deletes everything on your computers' hard drives. I arrive, stay for 5 minutes to start the process, and return 1 hour later once it's done. You can check the computer yourself to see that it has been cleaned and you may keep the USB with the program that wipes the hard drive.

I beg for some brave soul to try this offer out. It is a shame that so many old computers are lying dormant that could otherwise enable the disadvantaged to work, study, and socialize online.         I am going to post everywhere I can when I get my first donation ready for use. I think someone will be okay letting me know privately that they are in need. I will try to vet them by asking for proof of need. I just have to ask a lawyer friend of mine to find out what I am permitted to request. I would ask any recipient to share with the community that they received and are using the revamped machines - to show I am being honest with donations - but I don't know if all will be comfortable with that.
