u have

lots to di in 3yrs, every1 is going thru that. u must bite bullet:

1. adjust mentality
2. research what the job market needs
3. think what u can offer

if fitted, try to find a job, if your qualifications are off from job needs, improve it.

ur personal interest must yield to survival. even u want to immi to usa or any nation, a void 3yr will never be an asset to any1.

job has no difference of "gui jian", some people said, in canada, job is everything, anything else is nothing, i think it is true.

good luck

    • no way
theoretically u can, but as long as u hold chinese passport, u always need visa (H1 for work).

besides, which company has such nice arrangement to let u meet job duration and canadian residence rule?

contractor normlly base their work on a specific time or a specific project, ur idea is not the best
    • You can try it if you could get a contract like that.
      • Yes, there are more contract jobs less than six months in my area. But, I do not know whether it needs work visa in the states.
    • I can answer your question
It is very very difficult for you to play such a game. Whoever hires you in the USA, he/she needs to sponsor a H1B (working) visa for you. This process is time and money consuming. Unless the employer is your brother or sister, few people will to help in such things. If a company needs to a contract worker, it can hire one from the job market. Who is willing to let his/her project wait for a contractor?

If you have good Java skills, if your English is fluent, if you are determined to live in USA,
and if you have no interest in settling down in Canada, I may help you to come to USA. My boss can sponsor an H1B for you. But I don't think he can pay you more than $50 USD even your skill set is as good as mine.

I am an H1B holder, I also have a guaranteed green card case. I choose to relocate in Canada on the basis of my personal belief.
However, I can understand people's American dream.
      • No, I assume that I can not get a professional job in canada, what can I do in canada? shop assistant? If I can find a good job, I'd like stay in canada for the first three years.

          • But, for you, a professional engineer, which one do you like?which one can make you rich?
        • Before you get into USA, no way for you to apply for immigrating to USA
Once exception is that you have married an American citizen.

Since you are an engineer, you may try and see if any professors in USA universities is interested in accepting you as a postdoc. (I guess you have a Ph. D). This is a way to get into USA. Once you are in USA, you probably need to give up your carrer.... and do a lot of tricky things to adjust your immigration status. If you are lucky, you may get a USA green card in 5-10 years.

Please accept my friendly advice. Unless you are under 25, don't try to come to USA
unless you happen to get an opportunity--to say, you meet some guy from a USA company and he appreciates your ability and would like to get you into USA. I understand you are an engineer because I was a scientist. If you are a competent engineer, you should be able to get a job. Of course, you need to do more huntings than those computer guys.
