Basically I have the same setup as yours. I got few suggestions that you can try.

1. ipconfig in DOS on the server PC to check the IP address, make sure the network adapter goes to your pc has the ip address 192.168.0.1

2. ipconfig in DOS on your pc to see if the default gatway is set to 192.168.0.1

3. check the property of the network adapter connected directly to the cable on the server pc, then click the "sharing" button and make sure that the sharing internet resources is checked

4. you can also check if the connection between server and client is working by ping the local ip address of your client pc.

5.restore all the setup in internet explorer tool option to default, and try to delete cookie, clean history,

6. you can also uninstall & install all the network adapter and resetup the configuration as you did before, or update to the latest hardware driver.

7. back to option 1
