If you are newly-landed immigrants, you may need to buy some used furniture. Of course, your friends, you former classmates, or whoever is kind enough, may give you some furniture for free. If you make up your mind to buy some new or used furniture, however, you need to read some flyers or ads. Then, you may see a word---loveseat, which can cause some quess work.


What is a loveseat? I don't know how to define it exactly. Let me try to define it as a furniture that can seat 2 persons. If we try to find its Chinese explanation, I think it should be "2-person sofa". Of course, this is Chinglish. Actually, a sofa can seat 3 persons, a loveseat 2 persons, and a chair 1 person. In Chinese, we have the concept of 3-person, 2-person, single-person sofas. But in English, "2-person sofa" is called loveseat, while "single-person sofa" is simply called chair. So if we go to a furniture store, we may buy a sofa, a loveseat, or a chair.
