Toronto Public Library has meeting for rental. Non-profit groups that do not collect dues or contributions from members: $10/hr

I think the cost for rental could be paid evenly by each participant.

FYI:

Toronto Public Library has rooms, auditoriums and theatre facilities available for rent to the public in many of our branches. We require at least two weeks' notice for room and auditorium rentals, and at least two months' notice for theatre rentals. Check our branch profiles to see what is available at your local branch or contact Auditorium, Theatre & Meeting Room Rentals:

Ok, let's start our journey together now.Since Christmas is around the corner. I want to focus our first topic on this biggest holiday of the year. The below is a simple converstaion I had with my friend and I think it's a perfect little talk you can have with your coworkers or friends.

Jason – “Hi, how are you?”
Teresa – “I’m good, how are you?”
Jason – “I'm good. Are you all ready for the holidays? Did you start Christmas shopping yet?”
Teresa – “Not really. I can’t get into the Christmas spirit yet. It’s too early”
Jason – “Well i’ve already finished my shopping. I wanted to make sure i was done before the rush.”
Teresa – “I normally wait until the last minute and get all my shopping done in one day”
Jason – “Dont wait too long, a lot of stores are running out of items.”
Teresa – “Thanks for the advice. Maybe i’ll start earlier this year. Have a good day and I’ll talk to you later.”

Well, hope you guys will like my Daily English, and only with your support and feedback, it will survive.

      • 活学活用running out: "hi buddy, don't just learn English language. But you must use it. Otherwise the studying materials will be running out of your memory very soon." No offense :)
        • Your "running out" is not quite right.
          • Maybe we can try You will be running out of stuffs to say only by memorizing, but not practicing?
        • :-) Agree. The best way of learning language is to practice it by talking to other people. Try start a Christmas shopping conversation with one of your coworkers today and you will be surprised to see how well you use the phrases I poseted yesterday.
One day at a time and soon enough you will easily have conversations with people on all sorts of topics. Way to go!:-)
      • Thank YOU! And I believe with your strong willing to improve your language, you will get where you want to be soon!

    • 个人认为Normally和basically可以互换使用——Terasa(特里沙修女)“I normally wait until the last minute and get my all shopping done in one day”

        • U r basically right.
          • I'm normally right as well.
            • What you've said is basically a "Bullshit"! ^_^
              • u2.
      • Thanks. As you know the most difficult thing for Chinese to learn English is listening and speaking, can I suggest that Teresa upload the audio and the text together to Rolia?
        • I agree that listening and speaking are the two tough things for language learning. I haven't used any audio stuff on here, but I will see if i can figure it out:-) At the same time we are still working on holding real face to face classes,
which I think is still the best way to interact and learn. Finding a place to hold the classes is a tough one for us. If any of you guys have good ideas, please share on here. Team efforts will make it happen sooner:-)

          • I talked to a club which could offer a room for $15/h. if we have 10 participants(not including teachers), everyone needs pay $1.50 each hour and $3.00 for a course of 2 hours each time.
            • it's cheaper
    • applaud!
    • Very practical and useful conversation!
DAY TWO!
Thanks everyone for your great support! I'm so excited to know that you think this is something helpful and I cannot wait till tonight to post our second conversation:-)...shhh, don't tell my boss that i got it done during working hour:-).

Here's a little conversation about the snow storm that's gonna hit GTA.

Peter – “Hi, how’s it going?”
Teresa – “Hey, I’m good today, just a little worried about the weather, because they are calling for snow. Im worried about driving home in this crazy snow storm.”
Peter – “Did you put snow tires on your car?”
Teresa – “Yes, I put them on the car this weekend.”
Peter – “ Oh cool, then I dont think you will have anything to worry about just take it easy on the way home and you will be ok.
Teresa – “ok, thanks a alot Pete”
      Peter – “You’re welcome
      • "because they are calling for snow."——What is "They" referred to basically?
        • they refer to the weather forecast men...since people know the forecasting is always from them...so we just say they and everybody knows
          • learn a new usage" calling" .Thank you very much.
      • "a little conversation' 有点语病,如果是说conversation 的量少,可以说" a little less conversation" 少一点闲聊。
      • Thank you for your feedback. Yes, I agree that the languages in the conversations are pretty simple, since they are meant to be some common daily conversations that you can use to start little talks with other people.
However, since this is just a start, I'm just also testing the water, it would take a little time to accomodate to everyone's different levels. What I will do is to divide the content into two main parts: conversational dialogues(like the first couple of ones) and culture related topics (everything you want to know about the people, food, entertainment, books, movies, bars, clubs...etc). Telling me what you think of my ideas and what you want to know will definately help me!:-) thanks.
        • Thanks a lot Teresa for the great efforts you put! I like and benefit from what you did for us!
              • Well, for this I want to say that we are sacraficing lots of our time and efforts(trust me it does take time and efforts to do this on a daily basis) so as to benefit other people,
we are not mentioning money, so I just don't appreciate the way this "request" was brought up here.
                      • that's ok. apology accepted:-)
                    • I understand what you are talking about. I will definately look into it.
            • Hmmm...that's a tough one. It would be hard to do an audio demo on a daily basis, espeically my friends and I work for different companies and of course we don't get to see each other everyday:-)
However, as Raza recommended, we are looking at renting places on weekends so that we can have real face to face conversations and it would be easier for us to address any pronunciations problems you guys might have.
    • +1
    • Support! Practice everyday...
Teresa:" I can't get in to Xmas spirit yet."formal 了点,平时对话不常讲get into... spirit。 如果是我,可能会说,"not really, not get into the holiday mode yet. / I am not in the holiday mood yet. Do you have plan for the holiday?..." " I'll catch you later"可能比“I'll talk to u later" 更常用一点。
      • Thanks for your comments. Those conversations were actually real conversations that either my friend or I had with our co-workers. But you are right, there are different ways of saying them.
    • My support!
    • How about we try our best to use English in this topic?
      • Thanks! That's my whole of point of doing these kind of conversations here, it's not to teach you the language itself, but to give you ideas to practive with other people.
