天天英文 DAY NINE

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Today I want to talk about a few popular books that I read. You might have read some of them already. If not, I totally recommend them and you won't regrect spending the time reading them.
Personally, I love non-fiction books, so most of the books I read are non-fiction. Also, these books are not the most recent books (I haven't got time to read the updated best seller books listed on amazon).

Fiction
The Twilight saga collection: I know this has been so popular now that almost all the women in town have read it. I also know they are kinda teen books that talk about vampires and the love story between vampires and human beings. However, I have to admit that it has a very intriguing and interesting story line, so intriguing that I couldn't put them down when i was reading them:-) btw, if you are looking for a gift for a teen girl for Christmas, this might be a good choice. You can find the collection in costco.

Non-fiction
1. Eat Pray and Love: This book came out last year talking about a woman's journey of self-discovery. After her troubled marriage and nasty divorce, she went for a LONG trip to recover, rediscover and also learn to appreicate life once again. She went to Italy for great foods, India for inna peace and Bali for love and passion. This is the review from Amazon:"if Gilbert's adventures combine a challenging spiritual quest with dreamlike travel experiences. Her struggles with inner pain are real and gripping, while the exotic locales stoke the reader's appetite for more. She seems to mix it all very well -- inner growth, vocational renewal, and the best kinds of friendship."

2. Outlier: This is one of the serie of books written by Maocolm Gladwell, a very brillent writer. This is a book about successes, but this book gives you a totally different perspective on successes and why some people are meant to be successful with their lives. Btw, the funny thing is it talks about why Asians are good at math:-) Very interesting book, strongly recommended!

3. The last lecture: This is written by a professor who used to teach at Carnegie Mellon University. The book was about the last lecture he gave before he died last year. He was a very inspring person with lots of inspring life lessons.

I know you guys probably have read lots of other interesting books too. It'd be great if we can share here:-)更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net

    • I like this part.
    • I like your writing so much! A small suggestion, what if you add a few words to the subject, indicating what this post is talking about? e.g. this one can be: "天天英文 DAY NINE: a few popular books"
      • Great suggestion. Will do going forward.
    • if you like Sci-Fi and fantasy books, try "The Sword and Laser" book club. Members of this club will read some very classic books together and have excellent discussions.
    • Thank you OP! I would love to try some of the non-fics. The first one seems a little bit scary. I would share one of the books that I enjoyed." Tuesdays with Morris", it is a very short one.
    • Good one! Thanks.
      • Where is Teresa? We are right here waiting for you....
        • 估计还在度假
          • Re: Malcolm Gladwell mentioned by teresashi. His book Blink(The power of thinking without of thinking) is good. It's about snap decision, slice-thinking, etc. I found it very interesting.
