心态 = attitude?

I would say they are different:

- 心态 is more of a state; while "attitude" more about an inclination or approach.
- 心态 can mean a much wider spectrum of attributes than "attitude" does.
- 心态 = mentality? This is the closest correspondence I can find so far. Suggestions?
- "attitude" = 心理取向? A bit awkward - but IMO more accurate than 心态. Suggestions?

In the end, often one-on-one English-vs-Chinese translation may not be possible. If that happens, it'd be better to leave English as English and Chinese as Chinese rather than to "force-translate" it.

Due to this "soft spot" in wincity's recent article, the otherwise healthy discussion is now turning muddy -- people toss around their own intepretations of "心态" and people are likely getting carried away from the original topic big time.:-)

      • i was just about to say that.. CCA is good.
    • Agreed. Mentality is closer.
    • 国人做事讲究有个好心态,西人做事讲究有个good attitude,而不用good mentality, 怎么理解?
      • Probably "mentality" emphasizes on the inward and "attitude" on the outward.
I looked up both words in an etymology dictionary. Mentality is derived from word "mental" which means "related to mind", while "attitude" originates from a latin word that means "fitness".
    • I would use mindset for this.

      Attitude and behavior
Attitude is a state of mind and behavior is a Act that develop by attitude

Attitude is internal and behaviour is external
lets say you do not like your boss its your attitude toward your boss but you still have to obay him and always have to give him a smile this is your bhaviour. It mean your attitude is a thing which is true but behaviours can be mainpulted

      Work Attitude Behavior
Attitude to me refers to the ‘feel’ part of your work. It relates to how you feel about your work and your approach towards work. Hence, work attitude behavior is intangible. You cannot see it. Your colleagues cannot see it. But people can feel it. People whom you work with can feel your work attitude behavior.

They can feel it if you carry out your tasks with pride. They can feel whether you belief in your work or not. They know if you have passion in your work. These positive attitudes at work are a ‘subconscious’ transfer of feelings.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net

    • This use of mentality isn't as common, I think "mindset" is used more often nowadays.
