First off, I live in Manhattan, so I'm used to the exorbitant prices of the restaurants here. But even the 5 star Michelin restaurants here do not compete on price with the Skylon tower.
As a kid, I always wanted to go, so now that I'm newly married, I thought it would be a good idea to take my wife. And the menu down below listed the average entree at $39, which was high, but not outrageous. Once we got there, we found out that this menu was for dinner before 5:30. After, 5:30, the cheapest entree plate was $49! Insane. I've never seen an entree that's not lobster for $49. My wife ordered the $59.99 Filet Mignon and shrimp. I ordered the $49.99 NY Strip Sirloin. Both medium-well. Mine tasted like chewing through a tire. Hers was ok, but came in a ridiculously small portion. Also, the deep fried shrimp was worst than what you get at Applebee's. The day after, we went to some small town truck-stop diner and for $13.99, got a better steak than here.
The view is very cool, but if you've been to a revolving restaurant, it's nothing spectacular. Observation Deck was open deck and pretty cool.
On Niagara Falls in general - it's a very expensive town. I'm surprised because Starbucks charges $5 for a drink and $5 for a slice of pound cake. There are no cheap grocery stores or drug stores and I think this is intentional as the hotels and restaurants want to be able to gouge the tourist. We paid $5.50 for a Haagen-Daz ice cream bar.
