A difficult situation - Hope somebody can help. TIA! -people(Sigh); 2002-10-4 {1004} (#781208@0)
I rent a room to a lady with a child who landed as an immigrant last year. She moved in to my house in March this year. She has a Van with U.S. license plate and hasn't replaced with Ontario's license plate yet, and she continues to buy the auto insurance from the U.S. company. I told her it is not good, but she doesn't seem to listen to me. So here is my concerns:

1. I didn't ask her to provide any IDs(SIN, driver license...), should I ask her now?
2. She said her hushand went back China last year after they landed and will come back to Canada next year. At the beginning, I didn't think about it, but now I think there must be some stories behind it, I don't trust her any more.
3. Should I report her situation to somebody(you know what I mean), but I really don't want to do that because she is a Chinese although I think a good person no matter what is the nationality wouldn't do such stupid illegal thing.

Maybe I'm just jealous about this, but any help will be appreciated.

1. Did she pay the rent on time, and every time? is she a good tenent? If not, you can ask her to leave, end of story.

2. Did she have a credit card, any bills comes to your house regularily and seem get paid? if so, she is perfectly credible to me.

3. It's quite normal people don't change US license plate, illegal? Yes, but why do you care, you don't have to report to authority any kind.

4. Maybe she didn't tell you the truth of her life, why you should bother to know all of it?

5. Get her ID is a good idea if that eases your nerve, but really doesn't mean anything at all.

6. Take it easy, nothing to worry about.

1. Let's say she lied to officer when crossing the border, and doesn't want to spend any money to get it imported. plus insurance is cheap if bought from US. Does that mean she is a bad person that would do any harm to you in the future?

2. In your situation, she doesn't bother you anything except the vehicle plate, and you are thinking of asking her to leave in Oct. I am not sure who is the one more damaging.

3. If she is a good tenant in your house, don't thouble trouble until trouble

If you doubt the reliability of your tenant, it's your call to terminate the renting contract.

First of all, thanks for everybody's kind of words. Second, I'm a little bit upset because it seems like everybody in Rolia blames on me except my jealous colleague, nobody even blames on her! Maybe I am wrong... so here is my plan B:

1. Let her take the Risk, it is none of my business

2. Don't tell anybody(you know what I mean) about it, and if somebody(you know what I mean) ask about it, I'll say I don't know nothing.

3. Let her stay as long as she wants

4. Check to see what is wrong with me

She is an adult who is taking care of a child by her own, of course knows what the risk is, it's very kind of you to tell her you are concerned if insurance refuses coverage in case of accident.

You are not covering a crime here, don't need to be afraid. even asked by police or other kinds of authority, you tell the truth "I was concerned, and made suggestion several times", you won't be punished because you didn't report.

As long as she is a good tenant in your own standard, why not?
