help wanted! I can't add printers. I am using Win2k, when i click settings\printers, dbl-click add printer, then error message

can't add printer due to lack of resources. the printer subsystem is unavailable. I checked Device Manger, and LPT port is working properly, does it have anything to do with IRQ, sound card and modem are using irq 5 and 7, however, on my Bios setup page, it asks me to setup parallel port irq to either 5 or 7. I haven't tried to install printer on my laptop, but i will bet it is not problem of printer itself, must be someting wrong with resources of hardware. DXs, give me some hints, Thank you in advance for a 1k times.

    • Go to Services Manager, and restart Print Spooler, then take a try again.
      • Thanks, everytime w2k starts, an error message window pops up:
'spoolsv.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows.
you will need to restart the program.
An error log is being created.'

I don't know how can I find log mentioned above.
I tried as you suggested, then same error message popped up again.
        any ideas?
        Thanks

          • Did you install BitWare?. Remove it, and remove about BitWare entries in registry
            • yes, I did install Bitware, and this problem really occured after bitware installation, I will follow yr instruction.
However, any data/fax/voice software you could recommend instead of bitware? what's wrong with bitware?
            • Thanks for all the guys helping me!
          • Or you have installed wrong printer driver not for W2K. Remove it and remove entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Print\Printers\xxxx printer
            • done! it's bitware that make all the troubles, any other sofware for voice/data/fax?
