Jabber's English Note

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛The following is my own experiences. At that time, I was still in Beijing.. Every year, I have 3 or 4 opportunites to attend some colloquiems, symposiums or conference. You guys did their best to talk those foreign speakers. Some of them were very nice and answered our questions seriously. I remember one speaker told me he would like to use a board to discuss with me. Honestly speaking, I had no idea what a board it is, though I did know the word blackboard. Interestingly enough, after I joined my present employer, my boss alwyas say he would like to use the whiteboard. Without specific contexts, all the words are just words.

If we listen to kids speaking, we may hear they say ketball instead of basketball.

This morning, I used "Congrats!" to congratulate a friend in this forum on his new employement. Put it in the paper, most people can figure out what I mean by "congrats". But if it is in oral forum, I guess there will be some confusion. However, native-Engish speakers create new words or abbreviations every day. Unfortunately, we cannot tell them that their bullshit is ungrammatical.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
