Jabber's English Note

As an English learner, I find it an overwheming task for me to learn so many words and their usages.

Last year, I lived in another city and my son's school distributed a publication named "News Anchor". Though I knew there is a tag called anchor in the HTML file, I had never thought about this word before.

This school year, I moved and my son goes to a new school. This school publishes a courier entitled "XXX School Scoops". Though I have ever seen the word "scoop" in those papers on stock market numeroust times, I was stuck with it as I first read that "XXX School Scoops".

It is amazing that some people can learn English words by simply remembering GRE vocabulary book. For me, learning each word means "trial and error".

        A person's thinking can be customized. For instance, when we see the word "suggest", many of us think of "propose". Unfortunately, that's not always right. In some cases, "suggest" can be explained as "imply". Look at the following example:

        Our group's findings suggest that the global warming is not severe as Japanese scientists thought.
