I have similar experience.

My landlord sent me a bill of $1700 for cleaning and repairs after I moved out. I refused. They then filed a law suit at small claim court.

The bill was sent to me 2 months after I moved out. We spent a day to clean the unit at the time of moving. When I handed over the keys, I asked the super to go through entire unit with me to check. She said one word "OK". Based on this, I denied any obligations they claimed.

I replied to the court that I will face the plantiff at the court any time they wish. They will get nothing from me. It was April 2002. So far I haven't heard anything from them. I guess they dropped the case themselves. The housing complex is owned by a biggest insurance company in Canada.

    • 清洁的标准就是要和搬进来一样 means you have to make the carpet clean as before. 蒸汽清洗地毯 is very common here. Thus I agree with mssg jj. :P

        • 其 实 问 题 不 是 你 能 把 地 毯 洗 的 跟 以 前 一 样 干 净 , 而 是 你 有 没 有 洗 过(esp. steam it).
    • don't pay it ... ask them to provide the pics to prove it is dirtier than you moved in.

      • 是啊,我在管理处工作过,都是如果下一手租客提出要求,管理处就请清洁公司洗,没理由叫租客洗,租客交钥匙时,管理员应检查一下,没有损毁,就行了。
    • if u want to pay, pay it. If u don't want to pay, don't pay. Don't worry about "credit bureau". Who cares. U can say u never receive any bill.

        • NO. I don't think so. u can check ur credit history late on. If it is there and complain. Normally, it won't affect that much.

    • Simply double check your lease agreement.
    • 我们搬离的时候,公寓会请一个人在搬清后当我们面来检查,逐项核对,如果有损坏或不清洁的地方,他们会一项一项来算钱。你可以申诉:你走的时候他们并没有当面检查,何以见得就是你的责任?

    • Absolutely reject to pay. Before you moving out, the landlord should check everything, and give you paper notice what you do for for any damage and fixing before moving out .
