This is a interesting topic

I've been thinking about something similar for a long while.
For sure you won't get 45 days vacation, but you might try to get something like unpaid leave? Or maybe your company does have a policy that allows you to leave for up to one or two years without pay?
Although it is still risky.

If you have no family, kids to worry about and if you still young, I encourage you to follow your heart, you might find something more meaningful or even more rewarding.( I haven't got enough courage to do the things might surprise people tho. But I think you are younger than me, :D age matters! )

I have to say mostly I work for the pay check, although I do like my work in some degree. but dreams in my heart still come out every so often. I just hope I can fulfill it someday.

  • How much % pay raise for you to stay the current job after the performance review ? (the bottom line $ is already good)- or just quit the current job and back china for one-month and find another one when you come back?
which one do y think it is more reasonable? I already know the 2nd is more mature behaviour, but I still want to choose the 2nd one. I am convicing my parents and my family, friends that I am capable of finding a better job so I can simply enjoy one- month free life in china. My mind is so wild now, pls give me some mature ideas to convince me my act is so naive. (I am taking the risk to post this when I am working)
    thank you!
    • Also, I am not sure how many people here are truly enjoying their work? If you don't, how do you handle it? Ignore or take some effective strategies?
      • mm你说说你在干什么工作,pay多少先
        • accountant, and the pay is reasonable according to acc. market.
    • correct: the 1 st one is more reasonable and more mature, instead of the 2nd one. Anyone want to share your thoughts?
      • It all depends on yourself. My bf' s company usually give 3%-5% annual raise
based on performance. My current company give no raise. If you don't have any fianace problem and you don't like your current company . You can quit.

How about 3rd choice? Why not you to ask 1.5 month vacation from your boss? You might make some reasons for the long vacation.

Stay in China for 1 month, then spend the last 2 weeks in Canda to do job hunting. Does it sound viable to you ?
        • 3rd option is fairly reasonable, except one thing, will her boss give her a 6 weeks' vacation? Not many companies are that viable if her position is not very critical or senior.
          • Just got home. Thanks everyone!!! 海盗 is right, and I doubt if my boss will give me 45 days long vacation, especially my job is dealing with the accounting stuff. I would say no way to make him give me this option.
rabbit- I do need money to pay my monthly bills, actually, I am thinking about your option last month, but my parents told me it is not realistic. Staying anywhere still cannot avoid the working stress, exc. I have to back the company if I want to stay. My mind is telling me to do whatever i am willing to-quit; however, all friends told me don't take serious about work stress-get the cheque, forget the boots- you know what I mean?
            thanks!!!
    • So, one more Q: do you guys work for money or for enjoyment, for fun, for career advancement? If y'll agree money sounds the better motivation for one to stay, I'd give up quitting ideas.

        • after doing the auditing assignment, I am clear that I am working for money too. cannot ignore the reality-money is foundation
      • I work for both. So this is why I only choose the industry I like not following the majority
As 3rd option, you can do a little revise. How about you search job during your chinese vacation. 1 hour /day at your vacation. It's not too much
        • i am so hesitating:) rarely have this feelings before.
        • rabbit, you are such a nice girl. I have so many worries right now, cannot list one by one--- it is the reason that I never truly love staying in canada.
          • Hi Alison, Generally speaking, life is same everywhere and same for everyone.
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛My worries to my future and life are not less than you.
My emtion is fluctuate as well. The reason I decide to settle down here is that I find a good man in my life . I am going to marry him this end of year.

Although it's very hard for a professional sales to setup a whole new networking in a strange country, I decided to give it try . And I found that the past 2 years experience in Toronto did broad my perspective and strengthed my capablities.

Life is full of choice and life is what we build . I am confident that you will find another good job as long as you persist in searching. Follow your heart and listen the voice from the bottom of your heart. Age might limite some of our dreams but not all of them. If you have a courage to chanllege yourself and push your potential , you never know what will happen to your life. Someone might think that it sounds unrealstics.,but I believe that. And I am doing that and my dream is getting more and more realistics everyday.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
            • Well said. Hug.
              • MN, I wanna a kiss. Big one . xi xi xi xi ...............................
            • rabbit, you grow up-I thought you are just a little cute girl when I first saw your pic. Stress in itself isn't necessarily harmful. Everyone needs goals and challenges. But too much can be damaging.
Whenever i totally stress out, I pull out all complaints to my family; I was even unreasonable to say:" Don't give me happy face when we are together;" I rarely find ways to manage stress, but giving me excuses to avoid or ignore these.
Maybe I can try: to spend time with people who are rewarding rather than critical or judgmental; do one thing at one time( donot piling stress on stress)- this is my biggest problems.
wish you have a wonderful marriage life! you will- I pray for you
              • "Do one thing at one time " is absolutely right stragety. I have a same problem as you ,I am not kind a girl who has patience. :P
That's the reason that you and I are so stressed. Luckily, my current bf helped me change this gradually. I think that we will be better and better adapting our life in here.
Don't worry. ^_^ I wish you that have a wonderful vacation and have all your dream come true.
    • I'm not sure whether you passed your experience assessment or not. If you did, and if you don't have to pay mortgage, do what ever you want. I had pretty much the same situation as you in Jan.
I felt so stressed out at work, then I went back China for 3 weeks. I felt much more better after the vacation. To tell you the truth, I didn't wanna come back again. You may make your decision after you come back.
      • so, did you still work in the same company when you were back vacation?
        • After I came back, our controller's got fired. I got a promotion. Then I stayed in the same company. You never know what will happen in your life, good or bad. We have little control over our lives,
so the golden rule I think is to be nice to yourself.
    • Well, Having read your post, I still don't understand why you want to go back to China.
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛1. If it's just for home-sick, ask your boss if it's possible to have a long vacation. If you don't ask, you never know what he/she will say. If your company really relys on you or treasure your accomplishments and efforts, they should be able to find a temp during your absence.

      2. If you are going back to see if you still fit the environment back home and will return FOR GOOD, you are free and I encourage you to be free to do whatever is in your mind. Suggestion from others may not be the best, especially from the majority. Ppl have too many restrictions for themselves. I totally agree with "qsyr": you never know what will happen in your life, be it good or bad. Life is short. And your knowledge and skills are transferable both in China and Canada. So you are already better off than a lot of ppl to have more choices.

Some comments off the topic, I can't agree with qsyr in his/her remark that "we have little control over our lives". Actually we have full control of it. Equip ourselves with newest knowledge to keep abreast with the development, be positive in our thinking process over life, love our families and friends, ... these are all we can do to control our lives.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
      • thanks for the reply. Actually, I thought if I ask for one-month vacation, he will agree(I bet no boss is willing to do that);
I think I can figure it out eventually how to balance work stress- If one works for good money, he/she has to sacrifice personal enjoyment; On the other side, it will be another issue if he/she works just for enjoyment.
