no waytheoretically u can, but as long as u hold chinese passport, u always need visa (H1 for work).
besides, which company has such nice arrangement to let u meet job duration and canadian residence rule?
contractor normlly base their work on a specific time or a specific project, ur idea is not the best

Yes, there are more contract jobs less than six months in my area. But, I do not know whether it needs work visa in the states.
